What a busy Summer it’s turning out to be. Fortunately our French supplier has lifted another 6000 sq metres of cobbles and we’ve been able to secure a considerable quantity of those amongst his exports as far away as the USA. In April and May we’ve supplied 275 tonnes to local projects bringing the total cobbles supplied by Lightloads in the last 30 months to 1175 tonnes: enough to cobble an area 60% of the size of Wembley’s football pitch! There’s no knowing how long this supply line will last however.
Pictured inset is a sample of one such local project where the client chose a traditional fanned layout.
Aside from the cobbles, Lightloads continues to supply fresh cut oak sleepers. It can be difficult at times to keep up with demand in the face of huge orders from China making it difficult for the mill to source sufficient logs to produce them. Notwithstanding this, by ordering in advance we’ve been able to keep a regular supply coming in of around 25 tonnes every 4-6 weeks.
Our supplies of kiln dried Oak/beech 1250 litre bags of firewood continue to satisfy clients and even though the unseasonable weather seems to have gone, (we hope!) we’re still maintaining a steady supply for those clients wishing to stock up and store their logs in the dry for next winter. We’re also supplying for clients using them in their barbecues / chimineas / pizza ovens. They’re still currently at 2014 prices of £135 per bag delivered.
Aside from this, we’ve been very pleased to supply recently the Jersey Ports Authority with 26 oak beams over 4 metres in length for a project being undertaken on the South Pier.
On top of that there’s our busy day to day light haulage side of the business…. Not enough hours in the day!!!
